- Russian forces destroyed another US-supplied M1 Abrams tank operated by Ukrainian forces, a regional official claimed. The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the destruction of the tank without providing any details. Sergey Lezhnev, an adviser to the governor of Russia’s Orel Region, shared a video that showed the US tank being taken out of action by a kamikaze drone. The strike happened near the village of Berdychi in the Yasinovatsky district of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic. The attack on the Western tank was conducted by the Central Group of Forces, according to Lezhnev. Watch the video to find out more.

Very true, they have never been tested on proper battlefields against an army. Russia has been fighting wars way before Columbus took the wrong turning. They are not invincible but very innovative. I would say both sides have a lot to thank each other for. No one believed the Russians would still be in the fight against the top 40 countries in the world, but they are there and looking formidable at the moment.
It is sad that in 2024, countries are still fighting wars, and that is because one country wants to be the alpha dog and rule the world. I am glad that is being challenged giving mankind a chance of survival and freedom.

I hate to tell you all this! That drone hit the frontal slope and did not kill the tank. It did disable it though.

The vulnerability of The Abrams is what I call a "cheap lesson". We are learning this just before launching a next gen tank project. In my(inexpert) opinion the next gen "tank" needs to be smaller faster more maneuverable and much lighter. Systems need to be reliable ( the 98% solution) over cutting edge. Focus on reliability to keep them in the fight and field more of them. How often do you "need" the 120mm sledge hammer? if tank on tank fights are rare. Why not use ATGMs for the "occasional" tank. How effective would a 30mm chain gun be for most other engagements. One last opinion before being riddled with negative comments. Western tracked vehicles seem to be ill equipped to fight in the gumbo of Ukraine. We can't always expect to fight in the desert. I welcome reading comments from those better qualified than I on this subject.

With M1A1 MBTs you run with at least a brigade or regiment size unit and have a fire support along with air overwatch . This defragmented organization (UKR) armored forces leaves it vulnerable to attack by drone patrol. One tank here and another there and picked off. These tanks were stationary when hit and were setting up a OP position. Without a strong wind or storm your going to be exposed and hit eventually. These tanks do well in bad weather and night ops. But they die on a beautiful sunny day. Leaders and tacticians need to factor weather and cover/concealment to each objectives along with barriers and minefields.

Even if you assume this was the truth (which it is probably not) and that they would hit this amount every month (also not probable) it means they can destroy about 60 tanks in one year. Russia lost 2800 tanks in 2 years and NATO can easily provide 60 tanks per year. So this is nothing to be proud of at all.

As I have commented before these are "Abrams" not Abrams which are getting destroyed! I don't think a fully modern Abrams would be such an easy target or kill. All clarified technologies would have been striped out.
